Truck friends: Before I drag my 8 1/4 axle out and find a commercial scale, does anyone know what the weight for the entire rear axle assembly is? It came out of a 78 D100. It has the brake hubs and the shock mount brackets with it. I would try it on the bathroom scale but the wife would not be a happy camper if I tried. Thanks

I'd guess an 8 1/4 with brake drums but no leaf springs is in the 150 lbs range. I remember in my younger days carting a few to the scrap yard by myself. I didn't want to carry them very far or very long, but I could pick them off the truck tailgate alone.
A Dana 60 or even a 9 1/3 was a different story. I think just the center section of an 8 3/4 weighed more then a whole 8 1/4 did. Gene

Thanks Gene. I will go with 150-200. I can pick it up with some effort and like you said it's lighter than a 9 1/4. I have a 9 1/4 still in my pick up bed waiting to be taken into my workshop. Too damn heavy!!!!
