What's the best way to install a 3-speed wiper linkage/transmission so as NOT to cause any "damage" to the new paint? When I took it out, it was extremely tight fitting through the cowl screen holes. I would think there's a way to get it back in without scratching the paint, but thought I'd check with you guys for advice. Thanks.

Yep, it's pretty tight.
Tape the edges of screen holes and use some t-shirt etc to protect your paint.

if the front windshield and dash are out of the car/ and or engine its easier to go from that direction than over the fender.
use both cowl vents to your advantage. one is bigger than the other.
Just make sure you put the link rod in correctly. There is a right side and left side.

I had a customer one time istall his his cuda and then wondered why it didn't work. it will install either way, just not function.

I can only be 100% sure of this installation procedure being correct at the Belvidere Plant. I think I saw it at St Louis. (memory fades with time)

Wiper assembly was done on trim line 1.

Operator climbed into car with 2 air hose guns and stood up thru the empty windshield opening. One of his coworkers then handed him the wiper transmission. He fished it in and took bolts which he carried in his apron and fastened the linkage.
Then he exited the car, and handed a assembly to the next guy who was already in the next car and so on and so on for eight or 9 hours. Up down, up down.

As I remember when we ran 65 cars a hour there were 3 men assigned to this job. So the worker had approximately 3 minutes to do his job
When the line speed was cut they cut personnel accordingly.

This sounds strange, but it is really easy to put them in this way. No Dash pad, no windshield, just a empty body.

Try it, it works.

Thanks for the tips so far. I was considering the idea of taping the edges of the cowl holes, laying down a towel (or something) inside, and rapping the assembly in something as well. Unfortunately, I'll have to fish/work it in the way I took it out; leaning over the fender with the hood open. Hood is on, and windshield is in.

Got the linkage in. Regarding the bracket that attaches to the wiper motor (see photo). Can someone confirm if I have the linkage bracket oriented correctly where it attaches to the back of the motor (motor is in the "park" position)? I didn't note the position of the arm before I removed it, and don't know if it should by 180 degrees out. Thanks.

Thanks, but it's actually flat on 2 sides, and half-moon on 2 sides. So it can actually go on 2 ways. The way I have it, and 180 degrees out.

I have a 2822289 arm here, it can only go on one way. The 2 flat sides are the same but the other 2 sides are different. One is flat the other has more of a curve, John.

Ah yes. You are correct Sir. I did not notice that, but then pulled up some photos of my restored linkage and saw what you are talking about. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess there is only one way for the linkage to be attached. I'll check and make sure I have it correct. BTW - the numbers on mine are 2822 273. Thanks again.

Does your car have a 3 speed motor? Just curious.
