Been wondering about this also?? Maybe I'll just pull the mufflers off. The wording says nothing about mufflers so technically "muffler tethers" aren't required. There's no "approved" tether to address that situation. All that said, I'm sure NHRA will make a clarification soon.

anything that "slips on" needs a tether
all parts are sold as is, all parts are considered used no warranties or returns paypal/check/money order, shipping is from zip 02891, buyer pays paypal fees 24% IRS 1099A plus 3% of part price, check/money order preferred site is not monitored 24/7 there might be a delay in response

I have tri Y collectors. I also have an X-pipe exhaust with 1/2" bolts holding it to the chassis. I was told this was fine as it is a tight fit. I then showed the tech guy a huge conduit clamp around the X-pipe and X in the chassis. I think the Tether rule is BS requiring a NHRA approved overpriced tether. But, guys that were not doing enough to prevent exhaust from coming off caused this rule to come about.
A local guy lost a muffler with two 3/8 Bolts holding it to the chassis. The car was totaled.

"Effective Jan. 1, 2014, removable multi-piece exhaust collectors/stacks must be securely fastened with an NHRA accepted header tether, such as Lokar’s 1400009 or 1401009 to prevent loss of collector/stacks during competition. Flexible tubing or “flex pipe” prohibited in all categories. If mufflers are used, they must be securely attached to exhaust system and car body or frame." If mufflers are used, they must be securely attached to exhaust system and car body or frame.

Do you guys really think they're going to check part numbers for SFI? Come on. A couple of stainless clamps a piece of braided cable and you're done. When has anyone bent under your car to check a part, not to mention a number? Heck no one even asked to seem my license last year. Doug
All the years I've raced NEVER once has the inspector even got down on a knee to look under my car... only once or twice did I have to open the trunk to see if I had a ground wire on the fuel cell when that rule came out ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

That is one nice thing about RT 66, Tech is very thorough. I've seen them bounce cars that raced at other local tracks for years.
