have any of you fellas had issues with this modern gasoline eating the accelerator pump pistons in your carter 2bbls. my 87 sat around a lot this summer. and after driving it for the last two months i've developed a hesitation.

sitting they will shrink, no gas on them,modern gas probably dont help either

Iwas kinda thinking that plus the ethanol in pa gas ate it up during the summer. I have a broken finger on my left hand so no rebuild yet. damn EPA.

you can soak the pump with gas out of the carb then try it

I know the material is pretty crap. Gave a try and a Carter fir my 318 and forgot to put the top gasket for the bowl area in and pulled it apart and put back together and the gasket tore to shreds Junk. The parts store girl just ordered another kit and we swapped that out for mine.

I have a friend who has a farm and a few trucks. He has had some problems with phase separation. A local distrubitor is marketing ethanol free gas which my buddy has switched to and keeps pretty good records with consumption. He claims the non ethanol stuff is better with less problems.
And when you take into account the tax subsidies that ethanol gets the non ethanol stuff is much better.

But until the general public realizes that with all the energy it takes to harvest and process that ethanol they put in the gas makes it a stupid option we are stuck with it.

Or try running premium fuel with less ethanol.

The only positives of Ethanol fuels are the $$$ the farmers get for the corn and the miniscule reduction in pollutants from the daily drivers...not accounting for the farm equipment (running on red fuel - not low sulfur)that is being used to plant and harvest, plus power consumed to manufacture "Eco Friendly" Ethanol and the reduced fuel millage caused by diluting the gasoline(126000 BTU/gal) vs. ethanol (80000 BTU/gal)
More big business and government looking out for our best interest....
Gasoline with 10% ethanol = 121400 BTU/gal of energy, but the price remains the same...
Sorry for the soap box but...

Oh...and it damages our fuel systems ( in our chain saws, weed eaters , snowmobiles, boats, lawn Mowers, automobiles, generators, ...)creating thousands of $$$ in other wise un-needed repair cost, directly related to ethanol; annually.

I hear you guys on the rants. I work in a facility that does alot of generators on vehicles (RV's, etc). We replace alot of fuel system parts in the spring for the ones that run on gas, the diesel stuff is more forgiving it seems. Nowadays it seem that mixing in some two cycle oil or Marvel mystery oil is helping alot of the problems with things that sit for periods or are used less often. I have been doing it in my snowblowers and don't seem to have issues--I need to try it in my lawnmower though because that has given me nothing but issues. My two cycle chain saw has never exhibited any issues and my weed wacker is only two years old so it was built to run on the crap fuels just fine. Also consider jetting up a little bit if possible--it is alcohol after all which requires a lil bit richer mixture.

And yes it is hell on gaskets and seals.
