Just pulled apart a 5.9 or a 360 whatever.connecting rod turned black from no oil.My question is what happens to the rod when it turns black from the heat? its trash? metal brittle? metal fatigue?

I assume the crank is hurt on that journal as well? How is the rod next to it?

If you plan on replacing it to have a full set to recondition, specify which rod it is. I believe LA 360's and Magnum 360's had different rods. But it should have a casting #.

If ya need some stock 360 rods, I have a set from a 79 with lower mileage. Went with floating wrist pins and going aftermarket rods. You can have these if you want. They're just taking up space

FYI, when a rod gets that hot, 99% of the time the crank bends as well, usually .004-.006 ...so may want to have it checked.
