Here's mine, 4/70 (the 26th if I remember right) casting date. It is an over the counter replacement block with no numbers anywhere that I could find. This is the best driver's side shot have on the computer, I don't have the passenger side on the computer but can get one if needed and a better driver's side as well. It has the T.

You forgot to add your valve cover grommets before painting that engine

That's cause I didn't have them on hand but I had the weather in my favor, so I shot it. It will be a trick but they will be painted and installed before it's over with. Don't look too hard I'm sure you could tear it apart. When I think I am done I am gonna start a thread for correction BEFORE I put it up in the hole.

You cant tell it in that picture but there is no throw out bearing in it either. I just couldn't stand not putting the tranny on for a photo op. I corrected that today, all done.

Tom, what does "IIR" mean? Is that the casting date?

Thanks!

I'm gonna bet it's If I Remember, but yes it looks like a casting date.

So from what has been gathered does it mean that the "T" was for warranty or over the counter blocks that were cast in 70? I mentioned in other thread that my block also has a rivet with part of what I believe was the original aluminum warranty tag punched into block. It's about 5 or 6 inches front of casting number.

Blocks with VINs & the T have also been shown, so it has nothing to do with warranty blocks / over the counter blocks.

Do you have a photo of the side of your block showing the rivet?

Is anything stamped on the front of the block below the driver side head surface?

I wonder if it could be something to identify a run of casting molds. I have a 340 block with a cast date of 6-18-71 and it has a large 4 in the same position as the T. also a large 4 between the mounting ears. This is a standard block.

Here ya go. Two pics, one before paint where rivet may be hard to see and a close up I just took.

The motors I've had over the years with rivits and tags were from engine remanufactures. The tags told specifics of the rebuild. The tags have been attached to the sides of the motors and on the back where the trans bolted. Was your tag Chrysler?

Would it be fair to ask that if we are posting info on a T/A block that does not matrch your car, you include the last 8 info from the pass side of the block stamping pad?

Do all the 340's have small "s" stamps in front of the "P" or just the T/A's?

Quote:

Also notice the smaller font "S" that is stamped ahead of the "P" in the assembly stamping.

*I have 3 original production line 340's, all 1970 casting dates, 2 more 340 warranty replacement blocks, one cast dated in 70, and one in 73, none have the "T".
