Hey guys,
I'm planning on hitting the junkyard in the next few weeks and plan to look for a set of plain 15x7 wheels for my new project.
When did 15x7 wheels become available vs. 15x6 or 15x6.5? Is there any way to tell the width of wheel with a tire mounted?
Also, did the for lack of better term, "tabs" for the dog dish center caps ever change? I'm planning on running a set of 1968 Dodge hubcaps.
Thanks

15x7.0 wheels became available for the '70 model year (& are expensive thru model year '73). The most commonly available junkyard 15x7.0" wheels are from the late '70s - early '80s from Fury, Diplomat, 5th AVE, etc. the extra holes are for bolt on wire wheel cover attaching parts. The '68 & newer MOPAR hub caps are 9" in diameter (earlier & FoMoCo used 10"). a set on-line

If you're going to hit the yards here in Houston, good luck... Pick-a-Part is about the only thing out there any more with half a chance on finding anything. I did however find a complete set of proper looking 15x7 steelies. They came off a '79 Cordoba. The one in Dan's link are the later versions that are different than the early years ( if you don't care that is ). They have a bump in the center part where it touches the rim as opposed to being smooth all the way ( see attached picture ). I have a pair of police 15x7's ( maybe 15x8's, I'll have to look if interested ).
Good luck on the search, happy picking.......

The 70-71 15X7 rims have a part number ending in 450. Look for it near the valve stem hole. Later 15 X 7 wheels that are pretty well identical have a part number ending in 071.
The 450 wheels will make your day if you find any as those looking for that specific wheel will, generally pay a premium for them.

Not sure of the width but some 1/2 ton trucks through the 70s run a 5 lug 15 that fits cars, even has an H but it's sideways. Not sure if the center cap fits, I never tried it. Might be worth a look.

If you can find any non-police Mopar 15x7's at any junkyard nowadays, good luck. The old "450" wheels only came on some of the 1970-71 performance models - they never came on Furys or station wagons. They were unique because they had 14" centers on them. You will never find any of those at a junkyard. But have fun looking. Also, if you find a wheel, it MIGHT be true & balance for you!

M bodies had 15 x 7" wheels, both police and non-police.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
