I have not had much experience with A-833 transmissions. I got this in on trade the other day and am trying to figure out what it is.

From the little amount I know about these it looks to have an A-body tailhousing and has the stronger 440/Hemi 18 spline input shaft/gears. The part that puzzles me is it is all aluminum. Does anyone know anything about these? Is it an aftermarket piece, factory race unit, a converted late model overdrive tranny, or something else entirely?

Sorry for the poor picture quality. I snapped the shot early this morning and it was freezing outside, well California freezing.

Any input or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy holidays,

Jason

Thanks guys. These aluminum parts and the rest of the pieces to this trans also came on trade. Any ideas on these. Thank you very much for the education.

Not sure if the whole trans was offered in aluminum but the case and tailhousing definitely were.

Looks like a early slick shifted, pre Pro Shifted, drag race trans.

Tailhousing appears to be 65 race hemi. No speedo provision. It looks like it was broke in 2 pieces and welded back together.

Thanks guys! Yes, the tailhousing was broken and welded. It could be contoured and blasted to disappear.

Thanks again for all the info,

Jason

Looks like a set of red stripe gears too, definitely a DC part there.

Does anyone have any idea on the second main case? I will do my best to get the other parts together for the basket case trans in case anyone wants to see them.

Thank you very much for all the input,

Jason

Its an A-833 case. I did some research with the casting number on Google and found a few other threads that were pretty helpful in regards to the bare case. The 2801176 casting number was found in an old Petty Enterprises catalog and it shows the part number for the case.

The thread was on this site and can be found here:

Also here are the catalog pictures:

Thanks,

Jason
