Does anyone have a paint code for the screens that go in the air grabber?

Semi flat black for hood without stripes and red for hood with performance hood stripes. I like the red whether you have hood stripes or not. I had some original paint retainer bars (the little angles) for reference. I used a can of Weber red charcoal grill spray paint. It's heat resistant and it matched nicely. Got it at the local True Value Hardware store. Try it. You'll like it. Otherwise, try some different reds until you find one that you like.

I have only seen red screens. I thought they were only black on the non air grabber hoods. Does anyone have a paint code for the red?

I thought the non air grabbers had a ribbed solid piece and not the screens.

I thought the grilles were red with the Air Grabber option regardless of "stripes" or not. When you say "stripes" are you talking the wide hood stripes for the RR and GTX? (like are NOT on that photo of the white hood with the red Air Grabber grilles )

My brothers low mile very documented N96 69 GTX was ordered hood stripe delete and the screens are red from day one guaranteed. This doesnt answer the original post but I had to make an educated comment.

It might depend on the production date. My screens on the Hemi were black and the car was a Nov 68 production car. I have always thought only the air grabber cars with the performance hood treatment had the red screens?

I have an N96 '69 GTX that I purchased from the original owner in '76 and it does not have the performance hood treatment. It has red screens. I would like to refinish them in the correct color.

Big John....I will check on this formula...Thanks.

A bit OT, I've only noticed red screens, but I have noticed two different types of screens, flat and woven.
The flat seems to have come on St Louie cars and woven from Lynch Rd.
Were there two different screen parts vendors for the two plants?

I prefer the red ones whether they were originally black or not but I know that all screens were not red. My Hemi RR (St. Louis plant) had black screens and I have a pair of original T3 scoops with screens that I got off of an N96 RR back in the 70's that are black. I did buy a new set of replacement screens from a dealer back in 1970 to replace my black metal inserts and they were red. The retainer strips were also red. If anything, the red ones had something to do with the cars production date or the plant but I know without a doubt that not all screens were red.

I thought all 69 rr with air grabber got red screens, non air grabber cars with performance hood paint got red inserts, not screens.Non air grabber cars without performance hood paint got black inserts. I had never noticed red inserts on a 69 rr with per. hood paint until this summer, it was supposed to be a correct car.

A little off topic.

A friend and I have 69 GTX's
Mine is a 440 his is a Hemi.

Both are N96 cars made in STL
Both cars have 2 sets of red screens in each vent.

It does not appear either car has ever had the screens out because they are pretty faded.

Anyone else seen this before?

John, you bring up an interesting point that maybe early cars didnt have red screens yet, there is still much to learn about these old Mopars, I will check the production deate of my brothers car, now I'm curious. Anybody else out there have black screens?

My 2 '69s with the performance hood paint and no AG both had black ribbed inserts - never seen red ones. My '69 AG RR had double screens, reddish-orange in color, woven style. No hood stripes. All 3 were St.Louis cars. Never seen original black screens or the "flat" screen style referred to earlier. The woven screens appear fairly flat on their backsides, though. IIRC, all 3 of my '69 RRs were fairly late production; for sure 2 were.

In 39 years, I've never seen any factory red metal hood inserts! I have seen plenty of black mesh screens in air grabber cars. I have only seen the red screens in the N96 cars with the painted hood stripes but that's not to say that later model's didn't have red ones in hoods without stripes. I just haven't seen any that I remember? Here's a set of black ones from an original non-stripe car. Thye have never been apart.
