I know I'm in the minority here but I've had decent luck with the BFG's. I put 275/60-15's on my 440 Duster in 2004 and at the time it was a low 12 second car. The Duster just had super stock springs a Dana with 3.73 gears and no snubber. 727 with manual valve body and 2500-2800 converter. I could foot break it at the track and come out at 2000 and it just went. I don't think it spun at all. If i was careful and like above the road was clean I could get the same hook but otherwise they would spin.

Last summer after eight years the cords were finally showing! I had driven this thing to Columbus for the Nats three times on those tires and raced a total of three times at the track probably 12 passes total not much. I always ran between 18 and 22 lbs of air except driving to the nats when I put max air to support the weight in the trunk. I bought the exact same tire last summer because of how long they lasted and how well they did.

Unfortunatlly this summer I upgraded the motor and I have no idea how they are going to perform at the track. The car is an animal now compared to what it was. If I needed new tires again though after these upgrades I would be looking at the M/T radials or a Bias cheeter slick like the ET Streets.

I don't know if the OP mentioned how fast his car was but like I said the BFG's will work on a slower car. They are better than regular street radials. But don't expect to hook a 9 second car on BFG Drag radials. The Mickey Thompsons are a different story. Guys are flying on these street legal tires.

I'm running the new MT Radial Pros, I'm having issues w/ hooking up but that might not be the tires fault. I had QTP's, MT et's (the real deal) and the pro's. I can't seem to get below a 1.60 60 foot. If I flash the convert instead of loading it up it blows the Pro's up. I'll let you know how they work after the cal-tracs.

All Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Pro tires are designed for drag racing use only. NOT FOR STREET USE.

huh?

A couple weeks ago I went racing with my friend. He has been running the same 78 Z28 Camaro for 25 years.
It's a drag car and he has always run slicks. The car is a 10.80 car.
He bought a set of MT ET street radials 275x60x15's.
He installed them and went racing. His first pass was a 10.75 et @ 126 mph. He pulled the tires much higher than ever before. About 2 ft in the air. On the second pass the 12 bolt Chevy rear left loose about 30ft out.
He's now planning on installing a dana 60 but loves the Mickey Thompson Drag radials. The first and only pass on them was his quickest and fastest pass in 25 years with just a tire change.
I've heard the Pro's are a big improvement over the regular ET Street Radials.

I don't run the Pro's but I know my MT Drag radials like a long smokey burnout. The Caltracs should make a big improvement. Also I run lower tire pressure than many claim that works for them.
I run anywhere from 12 1/2 to 15 lbs. Do you run double adjustable rear shocks. That was the key to really get my 60fts down. The Ranchos are junk with drag radials.

So do the Hoosier QTP and Mickey ET street bias tires, not for highway use.

I have run the pros on the street and see no ill affects. I will tell you I will not race on another tire...... But radials like a different rear set up then slicks, so you can't throw them on with no changes and expect them to work.

the MT Pro's are DOT but not for "street use" Kind of a goofy statement, they were designed for the 275 and 10.5 class. I drove them 52 miles raced and drove home w/o issues. My main track is/was 22 miles away no issues. I have them at 28-30 when driving and drop them to 17-18 for racing. It's not good to go to low w/ a radial, they will "cup"

Yes 17 psi seems to the magic number. I run it, my buddy with his ultra street car runs it. Dean Marrinis and his x275 car and Ron Rhoads with his record setting x275 car runs 17 psi. Ron has been 1.05 on radials and caltracs.

don't be afraid to try the bfg's. i did, and they worked great. the sidewalls died before the tread. they hooked every bit as good as the et streets on my car. mid ten second a body. automatic, though.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?
