On a 1970 340, assuming it has a steel crank, will a cast crank balancer fit on it?

what he said , if you want to ruin that engine running it out of balance then throw on an external balance balancer .

The early 340s were internally balanced and need a neutral balance balancer. The cast crank engines were eternally balanced and the balancers, while they will physically fit, are not inter changable.

Reason I ask... it runs as smooth as possible with no vibration. I'm trying to avoid pulling the pan to verify if in fact it does have a steel crank. My guess it does. At about 3k it has a slight hum like a clutch fan would make. I'm told that's normal on 340's???

If I do replace the balancer with the proper one, will it affect the engine since it has been worn with the external balancer for at least the 5 years I've owned the car.

Thanks
