Hello, putting together my 70 swinger with a 383 BB and the mechanical fan is a little to close for comfort with my 26" Champion radiator. What electric fan would you recommend for a street driven BB? I had a HHR fan laying around and thats just a little to thick.

Thanks
Ryan

the HHR fan is one of the main ones.

mercedes fans might be too thick as well.

the t-bird fans are supposed to be good as well.

the 89 maxima is one I used for a long time.
it is a 2 fan setup with a gap in the middle for the water pump to sit in.

it needed flaps cut in the housing to let air pass when you are on the freeway if the fans were on, but it did work well.

The HHR fan will work if you move the radiator forward and trim the back off. That being said, I decided against that, so I'm going to try the Derale 16217 17" High Output Radiator Fan. It's a 2 speed unit and should be here in a couple of days, so I'll see how it pulls. My plan is to use the HHR shroud. HTH, Steve

Consider a short shaft clutch fan..
The OE Mopar cooling system is overdesigned and kools well..
Installing an electric fan puts significant strain on the electrcal system/wiring..
As they can draw up to 35 Amps...

Just my $0.05...

I know you're asking about electric.. but, another vote for a short clutch. I'm using a Jaguar fan clutch and factory blades.

On the front of my radiator, I installed 2 ~8" SPAL pusher fans.. they sit roughly behind the bumper. They do the job when the temp starts to creep up on hot days in traffic (67 Dart w/440).

If you find a powerful electric fan that will fit in there without moving radiators and engines around, please let us know what it is..

About 2 1/4" thick at the water pump snout. I use it's little brother, for the same clearance reasons, on my magnum small block w/ 22" champion rad. Check the attachment for dimensions. -pauly

i had the Hayden clutch fan # 2765 installed and it was really close to the radiator less that 1/2 an inch. so i started thinking what else i could use and i had the HHR fan laying around. The Electrical system has been upgrade to the American Autowire Highway 22 kit.

This is an old picture but these have worked great for about 8 years. I don't remember the model number though.

I haven't gotten it yet, so it remains to be seen how it will work, the car is going to have 'glass hood cut open for the tunnel ram.

The clearance problem is caused by the thicker aftermarket radiator...
Our preference is use the Mopar OE tanks and install a new Modine core.. Now one gets better cooling but everything bolts rite in. In our 500 HP RoadRunner we run the OE radiator and in hot SoCal weather, it seldom gets above 185 degrees..

Just my $0.05...

Apples/Oranges- You have a more roomy B body than my A.
I'd rather have a crossflow radiator and this is the biggest unit that will fit, the core fills the opening and the tanks go to the frame rails.

Hmmm..
A good friend in his Hemi Dart is running the same Mopar OE radiator, and has no clearance issues...
