It's -9 F. this morning and had to thaw the water hoses out for the dyno. Anyway, finally got a good seal on the cold side and the little napa rebuild made 535.8hp@4803rpm and 586ftlbs.@4803rpm. This was at 24lbs. of boost so I'll have to dial the boost back a bit and see if it will run on 87 octane. More to come.....Dave

Dan, it's about 50 degrees in here but the dyno has a weather station that corrects the numbers to the standard.Dave

Absolutely awesome. How much timing did you have in it at 24psi?

Scott; All pulls were done at 20 degrees locked out. I just finished making 3 pulls on 87 octane@20 degrees also. On a cold motor it made 363.3hp@4779rpm and 437.9ftlbs@4016rpm. Water temp was 140F. At 160 it gave up 5hp. Motor is still in one piece and didn't rattle during the pulls. 12 lbs. of boost.
This winter it's going in my 81 Dodge 1/2 4x4. The truck could win 9 out of 10 ugly truck contests.Dave

"Got to dial the 318 back a bit"

words not often heard...good work!

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

Girls comb their hair in rear view mirrors and the boys try to look so hard....

Cab; 24 lbs. of boost, with the other turbo it survived 28lbs. Right after it spit out 2 head gaskets in a row I got mad and bought an Isky groovamatic and o-ringed the block and installed copper head gaskets.
I've got a 78' 440 sitting right behind my dyno, the pistons are almost .200 down in the hole. I've got a spare steel crank, a set of Manley sportsmaster rods...think of the possibilities..... Mods, where is my mushroom cloud icon? Dave

impressive results for sure,i never heard anyone that thougth there would ever be a need to step it back alitle with a 318..

oooh i seee where this is heading
you might not ever look the same at that 605hemi again if you start doing these things to that poor 440 aswell.

The big boost numbers scare people, but you have to remember that with the cam and heads as awful as these are, the cylinder isn't seeing what the intake is.

For example, "the otherdodge" has nearly the same size turbo as me, but with eddy heads and a better cam . It takes me 16psi to make the same power he's making at 13psi. (based on weight/MPH calcs).

I run 20psi compared to this 24psi, but at 200hp more. I guarantee mine has more cylinder pressure then his 318 to do that.

Boost is just a measure of restriction. 15psi on a stock iron head isn't the same about of air getting to the cylinder as 15psi on a w9 head.

The -9F. air outside, in the garage it was between 50 and 60F. My dyno has a weather station which corrects the numbers to the industry standards. Whatever the numbers are though, you see the difference the changes make. 24lbs-536hp, 18lbs-460hp, 12lbs-363hp, stock 318 with factory 2bbl carb and factory exhaust 166hp. All these numbers on the same dyno, all numbers corrected to the industry standard.Dave
