Hi, I have recently rebuilt front end 68 Barracuda. Poly lower bushings everything else Moog rubber with offset upper control arms. I have Hotchkis adjustable strut rods. I have checked the torque over and over everything tight but I get a clunk when shifting into reverse and then forward. it feels like and sounds like worn strut bushings but I have the knew Hotchkis. Am I missing something I have a heck of a time trying to adjust these struts and wonder if anyone else has had an issue with these struts.

Its not a ujoint its from the front end. And funny Jim I replaced the lower contol arms during the rebuild. That could very well be it. Thanks

Pull them back out, but you should be able to see the slop with them installed.

With the Poly lower bushings, I would suspect that the arms may be shifting fore/aft under load on the bushings, measure a fixed point between the lower control arm bushing bore, then repeat the action that causes the "clunk", and remeasure the set distance to see if the arm has moved, if so, you'll need to draw the lower control arm forward, via the brake reaction strut/rod...you'll need to unload the suspension to do this, if this is the cause...

IMO, the only thing that could 'move' on the lca are the lca-'sides' on the torsionbar socket/adjuster if there's enough play as shown in Jim Lusk's video.
The socket/adjuster itself is what's mounted on the bushing. In order for the socket to be moving on the poly-bushing, the entire torsion bar should be moving aswell... But since there's roughly a little over a quarter of the car's weight trying to twist that torsion bar, that t-bar is going nowhere because it's locked in place.

I have the exact same problem on my 74 Cuda and I also have the hotchkis control arm with adjustable strut.

I've removed all the play in my LCA and welded the stiffning plate. I also revert back to the OEM rubber bushing just to see if the poly bushing was the cause.

It is driving me nuts but I think I've found a promising clue. My problem is on the passenger side only and I have noticed that the adjuster screw is not centered inside the LCA when the car have the weight on wheels.

Almost as if my LCA was twisted and I can see some rubbing marks on my fresh poweder coating so I think I will try to find a used set of LCA to test this theory...

Thats a good theory as I just replaced the lower contol arms and thats when this all started. I had a previous set of lower control arms that would barely pivot.
