I have been working on a glide in my friend’s car (non mopar) that shredded a planetary gear set. I needed to get everything apart for cleaning. The valve body was full of trash. I am amazed at what got past the filter and into the valve body.

Anyway, I guess I need to get to the point.

The transbrake valve body looks to be a modification of the stock GM valve body. My Monroe book for Powerglides references a do it yourself kit for turning a GM valve body into a transbrake valve body. Does anyone have the instructions? I cannot seem to locate anything non the internet for the company that originally made the kit

I realize that some channels need to be milled; a new separator plate needs to be drilled; and a spool valve will need to be made or modified, but I can certainly do it cheaper than the $400 it costs for a new valve body. The one I am working on will clean up ok, but I have 3 stock valve bodies and having a spare brake would be nice!

Thanks in advance,

bob spelic

Get the kit to convert it to a 727 filter. Maybe it would have helped the trash situation.

FWIW--I don't think all valve body modifications to make a trans brake are all done the same way. I've seen them done a couple different ways. Also, when you order one, you can get a full tree brake, or a pro tree brake.

Bob...Mark Verdoni builds my glides. I'm sure he would be happy to give you some info if you need it.

If you are just looking for a back-up keep your eyes open. I found a complete powerglide with a brake, deep pan, 1.76 gearset, and it was fresh and I picked it up off Craigslist for 250 dollars. I had Al Kapusta go thru it just to check it out for me an it works GREAT.

If you have one in front of you why don't you just duplicate it?

I have a copy of the Powerglide book put out by TSR Racing, it might have the info you're looking for. I will take a look today when I get down to the shop.
