I freshen a 572 C.I. motor for a local racer several years ago, it was a cast iron World block with a 4.500 bore and stroke, Callies crankshaft and 7.100 BB Chevy type Comp Star rods. I think I had to do a small amount of grinding on the bottom of the block to make things clear, I made a oil crankscraper for it also It is still running around five years later, it is mainly a 1/8 mile car, runs low 6.0s at 109 MPH in a 3400 lb car, we only race half a year locally on every other weekend

I run one pretty bullet proof combo, make sure to use an aftermarket block.I run 4.500 stroke with a 4.500 Bore.

I built one a long time ago, six pak rods, 4.5 stroke, welded stroker. There is room for everything but the oil pickup tube with a little grinding. A great build for a moderate street motor up to about 650 hp, or what ever you figure a stock block will handle. Absolutely killer torque with small port heads!

I bought the world block and pieced together my 572 combo... after I received all the parts, it was then that I was cautioned about the rods hitting the bottom of the cam shaft... Luckily, everything in my combo cleared, but thats the purpose of the raised cam blocks..

I built one a while ago. With chevy 7.1 rods you can use a common "451" piston an get to zero deck with minor deck milling. It works well.

If you use the 4.500 crank in a stock block, is there any way that you can use the stock type pickup or do you have to use the remote lines and different pickup ?

A 4.5 in a stock block needs external oil lines and clearancing on the lower cylinders for rod clearance. The 2.2 Chevy rod sizes gives more room. Mine was 2.375 Chysler rods.
Mancinis sells a kit with chevy rod size.

+.030 gives 535 + .055 gives 540.

440 source does a stroker kit too

You should buy a good crank girdle and consider a 1/2 fill of hard block in my opinion??

Do you have a crank or are you looking at options?

Looking at options. I can get a 4.150 with Chevy journals real cheap or a 4.500 with Mopar journals real cheap.

Its just for a street cruiser...nothing fancy

4.15 seems like an easier / less expensive install. Plenty of off the shelf parts for that stroke these days. Probably put less stress on the block as well.

either way will work the 4.15 with chevy rod size for sure will probably not need any block clearancing. And internal oiling is fine! they make a 6.76 rod with chev end and .990 pin and lots have shelf pistons for that combo.

the 4.5 with mopar rod may need a custom piston but they are just a few dollars more and take a couple tree weeks longer to get!

If you are looking for options then the 4.25 with Chevy journals is probably the best way to go. 4.15 will also work but you might not find as many piston choices.

You could buy the 4.5 and cut the rod journals to fit what ever piston is close, using a 7.10 H beam. You may be able to go all the way to 4.65 stroke if there is a piston with the right pin height and CC dish. I am guessing you would like to stay with a shelf piston. Some companys will alter the compression height very reasonably on their shelf pistons, so that is worth checking into for more options.
