I have 340 mounts (no fit) aren't 67-72 318/360 mounts (the steel brackets) the same?

the mounts on the block are different with on the driverside for some weird reason while passangerside they are all the same.

273/318 has a wider bracket

340/360 has a narrow version from my memory. seems like the only mounts/brackets for the later spoolmount system that can be found in partsstores is the wider 273/318 version and with 318 being the most common engine it sort of makes sence,since a simple nut or a few washers can be used as a spacer to make the wider brackets fit the narrow mounts on the 340/360block.

YOU HAVE B/E MOUNTS PICTURED TRYING TO ATTACH TO YOUR BLOCK,THEY WOTN WORK WITH A-BODY, STEELS AND RUBBERS ARE DIFFERENT.

Correct on that. If going into an A body car, those brackets won't work anyway.

The block having the high hole position at rear is going to be an issue with most 273/318 mounts which is what you need, not 340/360 mounts.

I have a mount bracket that will work with the high mount hole. $30 + shipping

340 resto blocks use 318 mounts...

Scott, I'll take that driver's side 340 motor mount bracket if you're going to toss it... :thumb

A fellow member graciously sent me a pair of A-body 318 mounts and the drivers side does fit as far as width goes, but it has the lower the rear mounting hole and my block will require the high mount hole style mount. RobX4406, did you get my PM? I need one!

If you use the correct mounts and insulaters they work fine.We done many resto blocks and never had an issue with the block bosses.Keep in mind the mounts must be the correct ones for the K-member as well.

Bob, "correct mounts"? Which correct mounts are you referring to? I have several original 340 engines here for reference, as well as the Resto block. The blocks are not the same, the drivers side mounting boss is different on the Resto block so the "correct" E-body 340 mounts I have do not fit it. I realize that the different K-frames require different mounts, what I'm trying to determine is which mounts fit the resto block (which factory mounts from which year and engine combo will work on this block, in my case, for a 71 A-body). So, I have 70 E-body 340 mounts and they won't fit the block, I also have some A-body 67-72 318 mounts, which are the right width but the hole on the rear lug of the drivers side is too low so they don't fit either.

What cars/engine combos came with the drivers side mount that had the high mount hole mentioned a few posts above?

Could you re-drill the mount to fit the block or is the new hole going to intersect the origional.

Ok, when you said lug I was thinking the lug on the block was too low,,nevermind

I will try and get some pictures and info on the mounts and block this weekend.The cars we worked with were 70 Cudas and challengers.

Get some flat stock and weld a new ear to that bracket to match the lug on the block. Very easy to do.

Sure, always an options as a last resort, but with all of the posts on this thread that say "Oh no problem, just use "X" mounts, they work fine" I'd rather find one of those and bolt it on.
