need help, ID a 440 #153131

hello everyone, i need some expert help id'ing a 440 i picked up. i was wondering if this is a hard to find motor or if you can tell where it came from, model or anything from the castings. i bought it for a truck project and dont want to tear it up if it is rarer block or anything that restorers could use. thanks for any info. John

block numbers on passengers side- date of 8-16-68, 2536430-7

drivers, 2536430-7

distrib pad- E440, 9 10 2 and a sidways stamped A

intake is 3698444-1

i belive heads are of newer vintage from some searching, 4006452

any help is much appreciated. thanks, john

just found online about the pan rail location. i will have to check it tomorrow. too late now.

so even though the casting is 8-16-68, since it has the E stamp on the distrib pad it is considered a 1969 model then, correct?

found the intake is a 73, it looks like its a conglomeration of parts. definately not original. John

no "HP" on the pad makes it a 350hp "former" c-body engine, 9Cxxxxxx or 9Dxxxxxx or 9Fxxxxxx, that early in the 1969 model year you should find a full VIN#

A block cast in August of 1968 could only go into a 1969 model car. Production of 1968 model cars would have ended in the middle of July. Production years usually ran from August to middle of July back then so they could have the new cars in the showroom before New Year.
