I building a 440 for my wife to bracket race.
It is .030 over and I will use Total Seal gapless for the first time.
Is it correct with .0195 on the top ring and .015 on the second gapless ring?
And if I understood the instruction the oil ring should be at least .015 or is it bore x .015?

I'm used to more gap on my all out racing engines so I'm a bit confused

Thanks

I use bigger cl on small blocks.
I would go a little bigger atleast on sec.
Doesnt hurt at all to go a little more.
Just keep the measures so when freshening you know how much wear.

I'll try to summarize the upcoming debate as briefly as possible:
Poster A - "Gapless rings don't work! "
Poster B - "Gapless top rings do... maybe. "
Poster C - "But nobody should run gapless 2nds! "

Carry on.

I think I'll stay clear of the debate, but your post was good for a it's pretty much right on.

I would not build an engine that did not have Total Seal Gapless Top Rings in it. Every Super Stock and Stock Eliminator engine has picked up horsepower with the Total Seal Gapless Top Ring.

I have been using the Total Seal Gapless Ring in my Pro Stock Engines for over 6 years. Every time I take it out and try another ring, I lose power. My Pro Stock Engines consistently have over 28” of vacuum. I recommend the Total Seal Gapless Ring to everybody.

The Total Seal Gapless Top Ring increases horsepower over a conventional ring in our normally aspirated, big cubic inch, aluminum engines. Their superior sealing and conformability are characteristics that we demand for our engines. The Total Seal Gapless Ring is the Ultimate Ring for these engines.

I am fussier than most. I live and die by the blow by meter. Every engine I build uses Total Seal Rings. I use Total Seal Piston Rings because of their superior ring seal qualities. The service and Technical Support at Total Seal is 2nd to none.

Total Seal sells some very fast and advanced rings.......... I'm surprised they still sell gapless seconds..... Get lot's of gap on the second.

I got them without paying anything, so thats why I will try to use them.
I was going to try them on my blown alcohol hemi but if you guys say they are crap I'll maybe reconsider other options

Thanks

Alcohol applications happen to be one of the few where users claim to benefit from the gapless 2nd ring. IIRC, they're supposed to help reduce fuel dilution in the oil.

For pretty much all other applications, the gapless 2nd ring seems to be considered a "no no" and even the gapless top ring's benefits are still being debated.

Go ahead and start one. I can offer testimonies from having used both the old Childs & Albert Z-Gap 2nd rings and Total Seal's Max Seal top ring design.

But I'll cut to the chase and tell you right now that my 452 rebuild is going back together with traditional Mahle top rings and Total Seal Napier 2nds.

If gapless was the best all Stock and Super Stock guys would use them, but we don't.
I have always used Childs & Albert filefit low tension rings on my engines, and even backcut them for even less tension.
Only problem is the oil gets black after a few runs.
But I'm thinking of using E85 on my wife's engine so I don't want to dilute the oil with alcohol.

Thanks
