That tells me you are storing the car with less than a full tank of fuel allowing condensation to get inside the tank causing rust.
Plus I bet the tank was rusty before the new sending unit was installed.
What's it say when you ohm the sending unit?
and maybe stored in a place where the temp fluctuates a lot

but I prefer the blame the Chinese...
IIRC there's only 2 suppliers, Spectra and Quantra, so it's either US or Canadian made....but I think your problem is climate/storage/and leaving a close to empty tank stagnant, fuels ability to condense water vapor today is worse than years past,...if your fuel sender looks like that, I can only imagine the condition of the tank's upper/ceiling surface...probally looks the same?

Are there any Co-Op stores around there? Most of them have gas without ethanol. Another thing, go to the local airport and buy Avgas and put in it, that stuff will stay good for a couple of years.
Not in the COMMIE state of new york , or pretty much the northeast wit the cali emissions standards . Nice thought but this is an unrealistic approach for most.

my wife's 67 gtx's fuel gauge ain't working. my mech. traces it to the instrument panel... changes it out , still not working... takes the float out of the tank... keep in mind its 2...max 3 yrs old... and here is what he found... maybe the gas has something to do with it too.. but I prefer the blame the Chinese...
So did changing the sending unit or pick up screen fix the problem?
The 40 year old sending units I have taken out don't look pretty either. But they still work.

But why can you pull an OEM one out after 40+ years of NOT having the tank full the majority of that time and it doesn't look like that or even close and that include OEM units with 10+ years of a half or less tank full of current E10+ fuels.....I'm sure that the Chinesse corroision plating is TOP QUALITY ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif)

upstate ny it is available... but 2 1/2-3hrs drive for me... I think I gotta go with the cam2 , which I already use on a 25% scale (25% cam,75% prem unleaded), stabilizer and some gasoline anti-freeze...
