Need to be directed as to where the best place to buy a torque converter for a 1970 440-6. New, re manufactured??? Sponsors on here? What color were they painted too?

Those converters are exteranly balanced originally So make sure, unless you have a internally balanced six pak motor, that you get the correct externally balanced converter for your motor Good luck, BTW you could probally use a B&M externally balanced flex plate but I have heard bad things about them on here

Cab, if someone had an externally balanced 440, lost there original Torque Converter for that motor, how would that person get the correct balanced TQ? Are they different for each factory engine? Or did every engine from a certain year/run (say 440+6's made in 1970 for roadrunners) get the same TQ?

I used Turbo Action when I bought my first TQ. I think I talked to the owner. They were very knowledgeable and got me the right converter for my specific setup. It is near impossible to find the right TQ without talking to the manufacturer and giving them all the info on your car. It's not like picking an intake out of a edelbrock catalog.

I usually have the local convertor company (Pat's for me) go through my old one.

PTC Performance Torque Converters. They are Mopar guys. Good stuff at good prices.

For a good quality converter off the shelf Hughes Performance makes a dang nice one with a very reasonable price. Their Street Master 2500 works like a stock converter and will flash to 2,500 RPM or even higher depending on the torque of the engine and rear gears.

I use a Luppo Dynamic converter and it has worked very good for me. Ron

What color was the tranny suppose to be painted?

727 TF's are cast aluminum... no paint. mopar action had a nice article in the Feb 2013 issue (I think) about restoring the finish on aluminum parts. article was based on discussions with dave walden.
