OK, when I bought my car it wasn't running, so I don't know that it works or doesn't. I rang out the wires and all looks good, but when I consider that the plastic has been outgassing for 42+ years I'm a bit concerned about reassembling my entire column and having the signal lock snap on the first use. In addition to my concern (or adding confirmation) the block around the flasher has two cracks that run from the edge through the first two connections.

I looked on line for an original 2947905 and see a couple people listing NOS items $265 to $450 with no kiss included. To be honest, even NOS parts would be a concern since the same 42+ years of outgassing is still present.

So has anyone tried using a new replacement 4293102 ?? (Year One and a few others sell) It appears the switch would work and fit correctly (if you clip the 3 additional wires at the switch that are for cornering lights?) Looking for confirmation I'm not mistaken, as they advertise it for all BUT 1970.

My main concern is that the flasher knob would not be correct, has anyone ever tried to modify the setup and transfer their 70 flasher button to the new harness as well?

Hoping someone else has tackled this issue in the past and can shed some insight, as it's critical to keep the original 1970 look.

I had the same issue in one of my cars.

I tried to disassemble the 71-74 version and to modify it. I was going to replace the 70 style hazard switch into the new 71-74 switch. No luck. It is different. But, if you worked it, you might make it work.
I ended up purchasing a replacement part from Vans. It was just the cancel cam that had broken in mine. The plastic was brittle and broke one of the teeth. The Vans Auto replacement worked out perfectly. It needed some work once installed, but I kept the original 1970 only switch assembly and fixed it with the $12 piece.

That may work if I want to address the brittle turn signal, but remember my flasher block is cracked (though still working) in 2 spots.

So while all is OK at the moment, I don't want to finish a complete restoration and have issues in the first week that force a teardown of the fresh column.

But thanks for the idea, keep 'em coming !

Unsure how the flasher button is held on, but figure there has to be a way to modify/transfer it to a new assembly if everything else is good on the new switch

No one is selling a 1970 direct replacement switch. First of all, the '70 "flasher tab" is a pull to energize the lights and everything else being sold is reversed and therefore pushed, sending a signal to the flasher can. So the pull tabs have a different set of copper contacts internally. I have repaired many a switch for my steering column resto customers who want the look of a '70 only flasher tab. If you use a present day Mopar replacement, such as #4271839, simply remove a portion of the backside (hollow) tab. If you make it so it is then level with the round stalk of the pull, it will nest neatly into the outer column shell. Please do not modify the shell as I find so many people choose to do. (That unit is a very rare one-year-only part. PM me if you need parts. Mike @Premium Interior Restorations.

Thanks to all for the information and offers. All things considered I'm letting fear of breakage and two small cracks stand in my way. So I guess I will now do a quick repair to reinforce the cracks and use what I have. Should things not work out I'll replace it at a later date.

Thanks again for the ideas and information.
