I recently aquired a 90 w250 4x4 that im fixing up for a plow truck. Poor truck has been sitting since 2005 and needs some love for sure. My current problem is with the wipers. They made one pass up the windshield and stopped. I have read about the bushings in the linkage that go bad. I already removed the wiper motor and bench tested it. If I jump power and ground to the two outermost terminals on the motor it turns ok. My question is should I be able to reconnect the electrical connector and have the motor work with the switch on the column while I hold it in my hand or does it have to be bolted down to get a ground?

Well it has rubber bashing where it mounts so should be able too. Should have checked before pulling. Was any of the bashing bad and linkage apart?

I would hook it up in hand. If it doesn't work then use a jumper for ground. If it works then you got a grounding issue in your connector.

you have to ground the flat ground strap that one of the bolts goes thru to ground to firewall.

if you pull the wiper pivots to replace plastic bushings...remember the pivot with the longer arm stays on pass side...it sweeps more than the driver side does...if on wrong side the driver side wiper goes off egde of windshield.

I got them mixed up when I had all of the linkage and both pivots off replacing the bushings.

napa has all 4 bushing around 8$ 2 packs with 2 bushing to a pack.

none of the linkage was apart but the bushing right at the wiper motor was only about half there. Ill try a jumper wire to the body of the motor today for a ground and see how that goes
