I'm a member over at another forum & there's a member there comtemplating buying a 78' D code short stepside with LRE stacks advertised as "Rare Mighty Truck"

I've checked all my literature & have yet to find it

Have any of you heard of this "mighty truck"
The seller is telling this guy that there were 74 of them made with the majority being black & only 3 other colors offered

Never heard of it I would say someone would need to present some brochures or something on a build sheet before I would believe it. Been around these 60's and 70's trucks a long time and you never say never with mother Mopar but I would like to see some hard proof on that one.

Orange one? Saw it on ebay the other day, widow selling it or something ...

Likewise never heard of it, and dad was Dodge dealer at that time ...certainly was orderable, as options, but a pkg?

That's it. I don't think there was ever a package like that & there's no mention of it in my GTS codes & options book for trucks

If it was a package, it may have been a single dealer doing their own package. They would have had to of been a mega volume dealer to turn that many in a year.
I would say not real likely...

In 78' stepside trucks were built in the Windsor plant at the rate of 200 or so per day according to a factory worker who worked there
The truck was built elsewhere not there

A while back, on ebay (see where I spend my time?) there was a '78 factory 440 short fat bed, either white or light blue, and I THINK the mag article shown with it mentioned that there were only (74?) less than a hundred 440 trucks?

Seems like there would have been more, counting 250s and 350s.

I know at dad's dealership we only sold one, a short/fat W150 adventurer, guy plowed snow with it commercially, it got rusty, patched, and from there, IDK.

Maybe that is where the 74 number came from?

The 74 number comes from 1/2 ton short bed 2wd production numbers. There were bunches of 3/4 & 1 ton 440 trucks but very few 1/2 ton 2wd short beds.
As for a "Mighty Truck" I've never heard of it and have never seen any literature on one. It's probably some kind of a dealer package but you never know, would have to have some kind of proof to say it's a factory package.

On the Mighty truck if it's the one I google searched and found on an ended auction on Ebay, the orange Adventurer SE step side, I'd say it is a really rare truck being a 440 stepside Adventurer SE. I think the stacks were a dealer add on or a previous owner add on. It is an extremely rare truck just for the fact of 440 2wd step side Adventurer SE. Very few 440 1/2 ton 2wd and even fewer Adventurer SE step sides put the two together and it is really rare. I have only seen one other step side Adventurer SE 440 truck it was a 77 and it was in Hawaii a former member on here had it, not sure what became of that truck. If it really checks out to be a vin code D truck it would be a good truck to restore because of the rarity of it.

I told him the only thing that could be more rare than that would be a D code long stepside if they made it

The guy likes the stacks He kinda got offended when myself & another explained that they weren't factory

I don't feel like they fit the look of the truck. But to each his own you know

I just didn't want to see the guy get ripped off on the "Mighty Truck" thing

Wasn't the Midnight Express a dealer package truck? I have heard of other dealer packages, Mighty might be another.

I am assuming this is the truck we are discussing? - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-ORAN...=item2a31e80bb9

If so I can say this much the exhaust stacks are not original
"Lil Red" stacks. I do not believe those wheels came out until a few years later also.

The VIN checks out as a Warren Built 440 Utiline though and that makes it pretty rare anyway you look at it.

I believe the 1 of 74 is based on the old Galen Govier letter from years past which has beeen disputed by many. I believe you will find the wording is something like it is "1 of 74 that have been documented" and since he is the only documenting them that just means he has seen 74 so far.

I have also seen the same letter that says 1 of 78.

Whatever it is that's a nice looking truck! The pre "resto" pics look like a solid truck, the price doesn't look to far from reality either, I would love to own this

Mitsu's were called Mighty Max. The steps sure do look funky, wish there were closer pics.

Mighty Truck I found out was a MPC model kit of a 4wd D50

I've spoke with someone else who knows this truck & he said there was a guy selling it for the widow of the second owner who dubbed it "Mighty Truck" in the various Ebay listings that he ran for $7500 or so
