I've got a 440 in the works. 9:1 compression, 500 lift cam, .254 duration at .050 solid cam, home ported 906 heads. I plan on running a tunnel ram, and already have a pair of 1850-3 carbs. I think 450 cfm holleys would be a better choice, but has anyone run a pair of 1850s?
Or, what carter carbs would be a good choice?
I used to care but....... things have changed

I need to find an original dual TQ top intake.
I have several matching sets.

I think you will be fine, I use a pair, straight OTB Holley 1850's on my 509 cam 10:8 comp 440 with home ported 346 iron heads. It runs sweet on the street and has only opened up the secondaries a couple of times. It really depends on how you drive.
I put 1 step lighter secondary springs and I could go more. I am going to put on a balance tube to the vacuume so they get a balanced draw.
here is a pic of the set up. Also it is important to use four hole spacers under the carbs to give the carbs a stronger signal
