I'm considering trying to use the serpentine set up that came with the 5.9 Magnum I'm putting in my Challenger. I don't have AC, and I have the Crosswinds intake. I have carved up the bracket some to get the system to fit.

What did you use for the bypass hose on this kind of swap?

Is it an advantage to run the reverse cooling on a magnum motor?

Did anyone use the water outlet at the back near the distributor (Crosswinds Intake)? How is that plumbed into the system? If you use the magnum water pump, do you use the o-ringed heater hose outlet, or the outlet from the intake?

If you don't use the AC or power steering, how would you route the serpentine belt and does anyone have a part number for a belt (or correct length)?

If the power steering from the magnum is used, how would you route the belt? Part number or length?

Did anyone ever consider adding a small supercharger where the AC unit sat? Does anyone have any thoughts on what kind of supercharger could fit there?

If there are any pictures or links with info on this topic, I would appreciate the information.

Too many cars, too many parts, too little coin, too little space to work in, too little time left to make it all happen! Update: down to one ride, still too many parts, a little more jingle in the pocket, gaining space, and it's going to happen this year!

So I guess most have taken the easy route and just used LA parts. I've read previous comments on other posts: "just put the serpentine belt set up on it!"

I'll just have to figure it out myself.

So let me get it right. You have an LA engine head combo? Have you got the tensioner installed? The magnum doesn't have reverse flow type cooling. There are belts for a/c delete vehicles.

the heater hose outlet on the intake is the supply line, the one on the magnum waterpump is the return

I have a magnum motor with a Crosswinds airgap style carb intake. I'm not a fan of Chinese copycat intakes, but it was bought used and cheap. It drops into place, but the serpentine bracket at the AC area interferes with the thermostat housing and a boss on the intake.

The bypass hose could be made by cutting and splicing two magnum hoses.

I need to get a service manual, but I was hoping to find information online.

I didn't get a belt with the motor so I don't know how the belts are supposed to run.

The magnum water pump impeller spins in the opposite direction. I was told the magnums reverse cooled (I need an service manual to verify).

Fuzzy picture of the carved up serpentine bracket to clear the thermostat housing and intake boss.

Rear water outlet near the distributor (chevy intakes have one on both sides). Where does it plumb to?

Exhaust manifold differences. I read the earlier post on this. I will likely weld up the header flange with the mig and resurface flat.

the crosswinds manifold sounds like a similar fit to the early m1 manifolds on the magnum motors. You can not use a magnum water neck on them and yes they did interfere with the ac. Many people in the dakota crowd have made modifications to the bracket to get them to work. You might want to talk to someone on the dakotart board and see what they did.

That looks a lot like what I did with my early M1 EFI intake to run the Magnum serpentine belt system. I think I ended up using the Magnum bypass hose, and it worked ou OK with what I had. I can't swear that the Crosswind intake is set up the same, though.

The water pump from the Maggie isn't reverse flow, just reverse rotation. If you've got all the Magnum front end on the engine, you'll be fine. Since you've got a Magnum block, you've got all the bosses to mount the tensioner and PS pump. My LA block didn't have those, so I had to fabricate a lot of small bits and pieces to make the system work. IMHO, it's almost not worth jacking with the Maggie serp system if you aren't using a Maggie block.
