The Borgeson is 16 lbs lighter.
I checked out the Borgeson unit and damn its expensive! http://www.borgeson.com/xcart/home.php?cat=143
$749 for the power steering unit and $130 for the steering coupler, also they list the unit at 25 lbs. 37 lbs. - 25 lbs. = 12 lbs. Borgeson $749 - Firm Feel power steering $359 = $390 $390 / 12 lbs. = $32.50 per pound!
If I had known about the Borgeson first and how heavy the OEM power steering unit is, I might have gotten it but I am kind of glad to save all that money.
I think it would be better to invest that $390+ I saved in an aluminum small block
I sell the box for 675. You still need a coupler and fittings to make it work, but its a different world compared to the OE boxes.

594 views, and no has been able weigh an empty mopar PS housing, to gauge what weight savings might be in alum?
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Now that we have the new Borgeson box, which is lighter, smaller and has light years better feel, why would anyone bother remaking the old case in alum? I don't get it. If you think it would cheaper, I seriously doubt it when you figure in design, tooling and production costs. What am I missing? I know the Borg box is expensive, but I'm thankful they even made it...

Definitely....the aftermarket support for Mopar parts is thin at best. Someone steps up to the plate and the next guy is trying to make it cheaper...... And then we get into the weeds of making parts in China to keep costs down and next the poop hits the

Someone always thinks they have a better idea. I dont care if the factory box was re-made in fricken titanium, it would still be way to BIG for my combo. DUH!
Mopar to the bone!!!

I for a number of years bugged MP at the shows many years ago to build an alum 8.75, They said they never would. Also tried to convince them they needed an alum SB. Same answer. For years I was one of many that often pleaded for a Moparts handling forum. Same answer. Strange how that all turned out. I am not pleading for an alum PS box until I have SOME idea what it might save in weight first. Because questions don't cost much.

Keeping in mind the forces a power steering box can excert on a K-member, for it to be cast in aluminium, it would have to be beefed up in certain areas to prevent failure due to stressed mounting points. Even when started out with a Borgeson sized box, I think because of the metal added for beefing up it would add enough weight that in the end one might only gain a couple of pounds over a castiron one. Don't forget the pricetag either. The 'new' Borgeson box is not cheap as it is. An aluminium version could easily retail for close to $800 to a grand. At that point a rack-conversion has been starting to look very interesting already. Why not go for some aluminium spindles while we're at it?

Well the Rms and company power racks are significantly less robust in every way, and have been on millions of cars, although the forces are different, but the tire forces fed back to steering gear is the same, only multiplied by the length of the pitman arm.

That is a given, but looking at the alum 8.75 it is only slightly thicker, although some webbing has been added, and its reported 10% stiffer than the OEM CI unit.

Maybe, but until we WEIGH one, we are just moving electrons with banter.

Everything comes down to price eventually, but if the borgeson box had a little extra competition, it might also reduce its price.
