Va Street Outlaws had their second race at New London. Very tricky track with no prep. Some of the local boys one the race with a car they took on trade to build a new car for a customer. 700+ allowing only one stage on the tricky track one the event.

Now to toot my own horn.....

Been testing sense last weekend. A few saw me testing at the Tidewater mopar show. Put some gear in the car and tested Fri night with a screwed up shock. Yesterday ran 5.88@119.8 almost 120 toot toot. Some very slight timing adjustments on the launch and ended up #6 in the VA STREET OUTLAWS standings.

I was incredibly nervous about the track. My car only runs their good with NA combinations when prepped. In the ole days on Nitrous you could forget it. First pair of serious cars; one in the grass the other in the wrong lane. Watched a Pro street car rock so hard on top end I could see daylight under each slick going back and fourth. I was next on my 31X14.5 street tires. Never had to lift but the tires smoked on and off all the way through. Put my 32X17.5 tires on that slow the car down on good tracks and let her eat. On tape the car goes straight down broadway every time. If there was an in car camera you would have plainly seen a lot of correcting going on and a nervous driver wondering if everything was going to work out. After a few runs we had the hated left lane figured out. Put your man pants on, pull the belts tight, and drive.

A special thanks to long time friend Troy Blankenship for coming up to help out. And the support of a lot of local friends and people I had not seen sense High School. They were not surprised to find out this is what I do for fun.

You looked great going down the track. It was funny because NOBODY wanted to go first due to lack of rubber since they had just scraped it. The cars were great to watch, but the down time was long. Here is a pic on Leon's 1st time run. The track reminds me of old Suffolk raceway. Those fast cars on a slick track takes big ones for sure. JiK

there are no boards showing times. You only get your half the time slip.

The track is deceiving. The starting line will take some power just have to be careful how quick you you hit it. My converter is 6,500 and I pull timing before we even hit stall speed. If I were to have nitrous. 100 HP shot about 1 second in with this converter would have been nice and shift about 500 higher to stay with the higher stall speed. We really screwed up the car ran faster shifting higher at VMP but it shifted much harder and we were having a lot of trouble spinning in the shift. I had a lot of timing out in the shift and it still spun and moved around. Shoulda coulda shift at 8,500 and more tire pressure. That first pass was on the smaller faster tires. Problem is you just can't run but so fast if you are spinning most of the way. Be safe put the biguns on there and get it done.

To be competitive. Go through the motor, a lot more cam, turn it 9K and fix some huge issues in port mismatch.

To win. Do all the above. A couple nitrous kits. Keeping it small.

The winning mph was 142. I have ran 142 with my nitrous combo years ago. Just not at this track. Putting any big power down on top end is going to require a lot of speed in the 330. Just don't think the tight tight converters are the answer. I believe the new converters that are big with little stators may be the answer. My 8" was flashing too quick and smacking the tires to hard too soon. Could have changed starting line RPM and helped but was just doing too well to change up.

this week I plan to fix my gas pedal to get full throttle. Don't get your hopes up it is really close to full throttle. When I remade the tranny tunnel the pedal now hits the overlapping metal and missed full throttle by a quarter inch.

Also going to put the larger carb on it that made 2 MPH on the old W8 engine. This one might like that too. You just don't know until you try things. Have not had time to experiment with timing. I am fairly sure a cam change would pick this engine up NA quite a bit. The peak HP is at 7,400. Change the cam to what the 358 had for lobes or more and it should bring peak HP to 8,500. Should be relatively easy to move peak torque from 6,100 to 6,700 and make well over 900 HP over 8,000 RPM.

I'm in a hurry to get some real steam would just like to see what it can do NA first. I know with a couple kits it can easily go 4's.
