How in the heck do you reinstall the hood hinge springs '70 A body?
There must be a special tool to do this.
What I can't figure is why someone would unspring it in the first place? Duh!

Install the hinges and hood on the car, then lift the hood all the way up and pry them on.

If that won't work, force washers in several places on two opposite sides of the spring. This will expand it so it will go on someplace in the opening of the hood. Once installed, close hood and washers will fall out.

I have bars with notches cut out at each end and this allows the hood to be closed about 1/2 way, stick in this bar in the inside of the spring, then open the hood and the bar holds the spring "open" for removal, painting, and re-install.

Good luck!

Thanks but I think we are talking about a different type of spring.
I have heard it mentioned as a clock type spring spiral wound.

Oh yeah, A body. That is a problem I have pondered before but never had to deal it. Yeah, why would you take that off? Hey...good luck.

A bodies have a clockspring type hinge spring

I just placed the hinge in a vice - wrapped with a rag and used a large cresent wrench on the tang of the spring and spiraled the tang in place.
