I have a 1974 440 with HP stamped on the id pad. What car(s) would have came with a 440HP in '74 or has the HP been added? If it matters, the engine has the small balancer.

And the followup question: Why would you think that anyone would add the HP to a 1974 engine? Flies in the face of logic.

Post a picture of the engine ID pad and post the VIN and you will know almost everything.

R.

I thought all 440s had HP stamped on them and didn't mean hi performance?

I had an original 73 HP 440 engine a few years ago. It used the regular (neutral) dampener and convertor. I took it apart and it had the forged crank and "six pack" rods. Yours may be the same. I understand the 73 and 74 HP 440's had the good internals.
