This block has a casting date of 10/14/66.I see 10/31/66 stamped over another number.What is this other stamping??vin?order #??

I came up with the same, sort of odd having the 10-31-67 date on it as well, what is stamped on the upper raised pad opposite the distributor?

Nothing,that was my next question.It was my understanding that the final assembly date was stamped on the pad,so did it depend on if it were going into a '67 or '68 vehicle?

With the Dec. '67 date, the engine (if factory installed in a car) would've been in a '68 model year car.

If factory installed in a car there should be a partial VIN# (last 8 digits) by the oil pressure sending unit.
Picture is of a 383, but location is the same ....

Based on all the lifter galley work I'd say it's had a racing history? Has it been decked? If so that would wipe out the top pad numbers. It's odd that it's blank because even replacement engines normally had WT stamped into them (Water Tested block). I'd scrape off that paint and look a bit harder.

I can make out the 8g in the pic ,but I will have to access the block again to scrape paint and shoot some pic,s.

I obtained this engine with a 73 cuda s/g car.It is a std bore and never hurt in any way.I ended up using a mega block for my blower motor and this has been in my heated garage for the last 15 years

By looking at the flat spot around the distributor boss, the block has been decked, effectively wiping out any stampings on the pad. This was a common practice in those days as piston availability was rather scarce.

Too early to be a '68 Super Bee, Road Runner H/T or St. Louis Charger R/T.

That leaves '68 GTX, Coronet R/T, or Road Runner coupe!!

Probably a Road Runner but it could be pretty much any 68 B Body excluding Charger R/T.That batch 190xxx was scheduled for Dec 31 67...New Years > 253 units after yours was a Coronet 440 Hemi stick car.Closest car on my database is 190033 a Hemi Runner.Looks like quite a few Hemi cars were scheduled to be assembled that day.
edit- above is correct ..too early for RR Ht and Bee coupe....posibbly a R/T or GTX rag but thats really wishin
