Any experts on these cars around to give me pointers on what to look out for? Known problems with car after phone conversation: Odometer is hit-and-miss. Has between 180-200 kms on the car (that's 112-125 miles in Yankee-talk) E-brake is frozen (typical) and hatch won't stay open (also typical). Cloth interior, T-tops, runs great, lots of power, no smoke from engine and spent most of it's life in Utah, so it has very little (if any) rust. Guy is selling for his daughter and is asking $1,700 bucks. Personally, I think that is really low for an '87 Shelby, but if it's as nice as he says it is - that's the steal of a century! I know to check the rockers and floors on these cars as those are usually the first areas to go. Anything else I should look for? Thanks in advance! Hopefully, I can post some pics later today after I go look at it.

T-top seals leak. Always. As expected, they are no longer available.
One way to cheat is to slide a small rubber vacuum line inside the T-top seal. It will puff up the weatherstrip and help it seal.

(Being an '87 Shelby Z, it should be intercooled and have an A555 transmission)
Although this is a true option for 87, not all are intercooled with 5 speeds. This is our 87 Shelby Z that is not intercooled and is an automatic. Its a slug but is still fun to drive. We bought it new in 87 and now my 16 year old daughter drives it when the weather is nice. Its on a trailer when I took the picture because I was taking it to a friends house for winter storage.

That's almost the twin to this one! It sounded too good to be true over the phone, but it turned out to be quite a little gem. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's in amazing shape all things considered. I took it for a run - not a sign of blue from the tailpipe the entire time. Built boost nicely, blow-off valve worked; transmission shifted smoothly and clutch & brakes felt good too. It had 4-wheel discs!! Was not expecting that.
On the down side, it has a few minor dents and scrapes but absolutely NO rust. They mentioned their daughter went to University in Utah and that may have been what saved the car. She also NEVER winter drove it and I'd believe that. It has a few electrical issues like the dome light doesn't work and the tach acts "sticky". But after three years of sitting, the old fella just wants it gone. I made what I thought was a reasonable (but low) offer, and he bit. $1200 bucks. We did all the paperwork today but since my buddy bailed on me at the last second, I won't be able to go get the car until next Sunday. But the owner is OK with that. They even wrote me out a receipt from an old-school receipt book!
In all the excitement, I forgot to snap a few pictures.

The rear e-brake setup is garbage, it works through the caliper. The 89+ setup is much better.

Dodge-N-Shelby: mine does not have a secondary tag on the radiator support.
Here's a pic of the ol gal now that she's home. Needs a little bit of love, mostly electrical - lots of contacts have corroded from sitting but things are slowly coming back to life. Biggest thing is no dome/map lights yet the cargo light in the back still comes on when the doors or hatch are open.
For the most part, even the paint is in good shape!
