Anyone here have personnel experience running a max wedge cross ram on a street strip car. How does the cross ram work on the street. Does it work better with 500 + cubic inches.

I have run both 451 and 499 ci, the 499 is the way go especially with the A&A max wedge crossram intake. With the 499 I went from 4.56 down to a 4.30 and shift earlier. This combo is very streetable now, starts easy, idles good, and runs when needed.

I took mine off the track and put a street converter in it (3K stall) and 3:23 gears in it and it starts and runs fine, and this is with no chokes. Traffic or hiway it drives fine with a 0.030 over 440 and 750 carbs. Plus, it has plenty of go.

Mine ran great....13.2 to 1 stock stroke 426, stock heads, carbs and exhaust manifolds...stockish cam....MSD 6AL with timing locked at 36*....4,800 converter and 4.56's with a 30" tire...drove it all over the place...I put in a set of 2.76's and drove it 4.5 hours to Topeka, drove around all weekend and drove home...all on race gas...did fantastic...even got great mileage......

If your going to run iron Max wedge heads on the street and you want to use pump gas keep the compression ratio under 10.0 to 1 If aluminum heads shoot for under 10.5 to 1 on pump gas I like and use bigger cams on the street than others do, I like 250 to 265 degrees @ .050 with a 106 to 110 lobe seperation angle and as much lift as I can get, roller cams rock 1.6 rocker help a bunch also

This is the kind of stuff I like to see right here. I took a healthy cruise yesturday in the heat w/my friend Mike and it never skipped a beat and even stayed under 195 degrees in 100 degree weather.

It was an original 19K mile '63 steel nose High Compression Dodge....Had a 23 gallon fuel tank...mileage from my house to the track in Topeka is 220 miles...I left with a full tank and when I got there it still had a 1/4 showing on the fuel gauge...with a stock 4 blade fan and no shroud it never got over 195....car was a blast to drive...ran 11.90's @ 110.... I did that back in '98 and the racers at the track couldn't believe I drove it from Tulsa and was driving it back and forth to the hotel at night...

Too cool.............. I used to drive from my house to Palmdale when I had a high 11-second 360 in it and same deal, drove there, beat up on a few big blocks then drove the hour plus home.

This is what I am hoping. Since I am a blue collar Mopar guy with a redheaded wife one car is going to have to wear couple two or three hats. It needs to be good looking, consistent, reliable and run 11.50 in the heat and look
like a stock max wedge car. My pick of cars to do this is a 1963 Savoy Plymouth. When I was a youngster a friend had a black 63 Savoy with alabaster and black interior that I thought was awesome. So the same my Plymouth must be.

Here are a few of the arenas the the old girl will have to compete in.
1. Saturday night car shows and cruises.
2. Bracket races, muscle car club challenges and nss
3. Drag Week
4. Pure Stock Drags
Primary engine wil be a 4.30 stroke 500+ ci with 10 to 1 compression 248 at 50 flat tappet with mid 5 lifts with RAS 1.6 rockers, reproduction maxi heads with mild porting with 2.19 intake and 1.81 exhaust valves and hard seats. Stock maxi intake and exhaust manifolds with 3705 afb's.
Pure stock will require a second engine built to legal specs for class.
The car will be tied but no roll bar. Dvorak springs, double adjustable shocks front and rear. 3.55 gear for big engine 4.30 for the pure stock.
So can it be done or am
I asking to much. 11.50 is fast enough I don't want a roll bar.

I`m no expert but why not work the heads and get more lift w/a nice streetable lobe to take advantage of the heads abilities........... Still plenty streetable but just noticed the "no bar"............

Thumper I am trying to stay fairly mild in all areas with the large cubic inch engine for the reliability and the ability of using the 3.55 gear for cruising and still meet my performance goals.

You wont be allowed to run the Pure Stock Drags with 500+ cubes. You might be allowed to run FAST as long as you have the right heads and carbs I believe. Ron

Ron I can't afford two cars so I will be building two engines. I actually have most the parts for both engines. It has taken years to collect the pieces to do this project but I have most of what I need and will be moving forward on this project.

Yes I have un modified 286 heads , max wedge cross ram,413 industrial block and 3705 carbs for the stock build. The only piece I don't have is exhaust manifolds and those are available in reproduction if it comes to that.

They work great on the street...The idle quality and throttle repsonse is fantastic..I love these engines. I have built a few stock appearing(FAST) MW's and really like them. If they held on a bit better up top, theyd really be deadly, but for what you are doing it will be more than fine.

Feel free to drop me a PM for any assistance...I have dynoed a bunch of cams in these and have something that works really well..
