A couple years back I owned a 340 and 727 but i traded them both off. Well the owner wants to sell the transmission to me for $75 now. The transmission had a manual reverse pattern valve body in it. I know it slipped pretty bad somewhere.. im thinking the 1-2 shift. Also after I put new fluid in it I checked it a few days later and it was very black. I know very little about transmissions so im wondering what could be wrong? Could something need adjusted or does it sound like something needs repaired/replaced?

If its turning the fluid black that fast you got some serious heat or slippage going on in there, sounds like time for a rebuild and a good trans cooler.
