Thanks, it's been a LONG time getting it together and it's still a couple of months away from being road ready. It feels like I've just gotten over the crest and it's heading down hill. It's a hot rod, so everything needs to be massaged and put together 3X.

727 Cope valve body, 11" converter that I've had for many years- freshened up by a local builder. I may switch to a manual valve body, getting the cable routing for the TV may not be feasible with the TR.

Steve, great to hear your progress.

If you need for mock up, I have those 275/40/17 loose on mustang rims.

Good to see someone working today in this heat. I couldn't get motivated in my 99 degree garage.

Hi Steve
I took today off, I've had this last week off from work, so I thrashed during one of the hottest weeks of the year Tomorrow I put the motor mount bolts in, install the radiator/fan, starter, flexplate-> converter bolts, run fuel lines and mount carbs. Oh ya, clean up my Dad's garage and driveway. I think I'm going to stick with the 255/50s I like the Nitto INVO tires to replace the current skins.

Bummer timing on the weather.

Now that it's cooled off some, I'm going to put on a master cylinder.

What kind of hood/scoop will you be covering the carbs with or will you just have some of those velocity stack style air cleaners stick out of the hood?

Back 20 or more years ago there where a couple of street cars that ran tunnel rams. One was a Trans Am with a shaker hood the carbs stuck through the hole in he hood. The other car was a 71 Charger Hemi Orange and the carbs stuck through the hood on that one also.

Velocity stacks! Gonna use a 'glass hood. That sucker is tall though, The carbs are above the hood line . I ran into a SNAFU on Sunday, spent the day grinding for oil pump clearance and when I got that the oil filter was hitting the K-member So I have to cut and box it and cut an access for the D/S mount nut. I just tell myself that it's a hot rod. Since I had Jury Duty today and I'm on a panel I may be there all week, so no time @ work to do any mods in my spare time

So how'd that go? Are you upgrading the brakes or just replacing it.

Are you going to road race/ autocross a car with a tunnel ram! Has this been done before?

Skeptic -- you mentioned switching to a maual valve body (automatic trans)... I beleiev when that done, it takes away the allowance to manually downshift at your discretion.. if that occurs, uts not good.. since you want to be able to up shift/down shift at any speeds/rpms for autocrossing/road course events... I suggest that you double-check that situation before you'd regret it.

Sort of. The cross rams made popular by the Z28 302 were essentially tunnel rams flattened to fit under the hood line mandated by SCCA for the trans am series, so I'd say they work pretty good.

Despite the popular reputation of them, tunnel rams actually make more power under the curve, across the entire power band than any other intake. Many moons ago Hot Rod did a manifold shoot out on a 383 using a couple dozen single and dual plane intakes along with a couple of tunnel rams thrown in for grins. Net result was the tunnel rams kicked butt on everything in horsepower AND torque.

I've got a Weiand High Ram and a couple of Holley 450s that I'm going to throw on my heap after I baseline it all with the Air Gap and 750.

I guess there is really no reason that it won't work if it is set up well, I wonder what it will be like when you exit a corner hard and get on the gas, might be a bit of a pain to get set up for this.
When you do show up a the track it will draw a crowd that for sure.

The downfall of such a setup (multiple carbs, tunnel ram, etc) is the weight. Less weight up front is what's desired... even a s/b six pack setup weighs 60 lbs vs the 30 lbs of an aluminum 4 bbl setup... thats 30 pounds removed from the car, removed from the FRONT end where the weight is NOT wanted. Running such multi-carb setups may look cool, but they'll actually slow down the car through its pace around an autocross course. Unless the car will be run wide-open throttle on lengthy road courses, a lighter-weight single 4-bbl setup will have better advantages all through the corners/curves/turns, better deceleration, and to some extent better acceleration. The races are won in the turns, not the straights.

I thought about weight savings on my 72 RRunner so much, big block six pack factory air grabber with all that front end weight......the best way to cut weight and get a better handlung car the answer is to sell the 72 and buy a new Mustang.
