My 440 will be going to a machine shop soon and I got to thinking that this motor may belong to car out there. I was going to throw out the year and anything else that would identify it on this forum in case someone is looking for their long lost motor. Its a 1969 built motor, HP2 block, and when I bought it 15 years ago it came with a forged crank, rods and six pack damper which are still all in the motor. My question is where are the locations of the numbers? is there a VIN on there somewhere? The motor has been sitting on a stand for 10 years so I have total access. Ive looked at it a bunch of times but other than the year, nothing makes sense to me. Thanks!

Look for a raised pad on the passenger side of the block, right above the oil pan rail with 8 digits stamped in it.

There should be a VIN on the oil pan rail but it might not be there if it was a very early block. If the block is clean the VIN will be obvious. If there isn't a VIN on the pan rail then look at the back of the block on the lip around the bellhousing area. Some '68 blocks were stamped back there.
