Man, lot's of flame. Glad it wasn't anymore serious. Don't see any kind of shield. That's a good size hole.

This is pretty graphic. I run a trans shield, but this video is making me rethink a open face helmet and no gloves. Just before the car comes to a stop, you can see him trying to get his head out of the fire.

Seems like no shield was used?
Here in our rules if you have 10.99s or faster you must have shield. Also gloves are a must if you drive at any speeds. Also if your speed is 9.99s or faster you cannot use open face helmet.

Glad the driver is ok.

Scarey stuff...plus he wrecked his car. Alum or billet steel drum would have prevented that

Low band apply valve body is good insurance also.

I did some work on a Dakota for a guy. He refused to let me complete the cage says he does not want something that looks like a race vehicle. Refuses to replace the drum and is running an outdated valve body. I'm sure it will be my fault if VMP does not let him run at the Mopar show.

This is the reason I welded a piece of steel plate on the floor board when I did my cage!

OMG...

Watching that makes me want to go ahead with the 904 swap I was planning over the winter.

Good idea, and I think I might look in to that when my shat box is apart again. I do run a blanket style shield, but it is a hassle to work with / install. I also run a low band apply and a steel front drum.

Wow that is a bad one, would make me nervous to run a torqueflite.

Where's that so called dragster racer who says it's fine to race with hardly any safety gear on because NHRA sucks and it's hot out. Whinny little man, I never heard such whinning.

Whoa! That has to sting!

"Watching that makes me want to go ahead with the 904 swap I was planning over the winter"

Is the 904 not the same as the 727 when it comes to explosions like this?

No they are not... the 904 has a smaller drum so the
RPM has to be much higher to get the centrifugal
force for it to explode ... when the sprag rolls over
(breaks) it spins the drum 2.2 times the engine rpm

I sure LOVE my powerglide sitting behind my big and small block engines. Then again its usually the driver fault 98 out of 100 times for not knowing when, how or WHY your transmission needs checked out.

Is that Al Bundy's car?
