A friend of mine has a '61 Chrysler LeBaron with a 413 and the cast iron torque flight trans..The starter is on the fritz, will the later reduction starter fit and work with the older set-up??

Yes! get a rebuilt from a 92 or so Dakota.

You may have to pop the plastic and take the extension off the top of the starter but otherwise.

A reduction gear starter will not work on your friend's 1961 Chrysler (assuming it's the original engine and transmission in the car).

Pre-1962 Chrysler products use a direct-drive style starter. I would recommend getting the starter rebuilt by a automotive electrical repair shop.

Good luck!
