I am in the middle of a new cam install and have a question about degreeing it. It is a Lunati cam that has a LSA of 110 and an installed centerline of 106. They told me it has 4deg of advance built in. Well I installed it lining up the dots earlier today and it degreed in at 110 on the #1 intake which to me would mean I need to advance it 4deg. Is my thinking correct? I want it to come in at 106 when degreeing it...right.

You are correct.. forget about the 4* built into it..
install it at 106(or maybe 104) depending on the total
set up. but the lower the install gives you more
LOW END torque)

No. You need to retard it 4*. The measurement is BEFORE TDC.

Who ever came up with the "advance built in" statement should be run over ! Causes more confusion than my wife giving someone directions to the grocery store 2 blocks away.

I thought if I retarded it 4* that would put me at 114*....right? Don't I want to advance it 4* to get to 106*?

Yep you want to advance it and not retard it. As I remember your 60 ft.s were a little slow for you Et so you might even want it in @ 104 ICL

You are right as you are doing it by max lift on the intake lobe. You want max intake lobe lift centerline at 106 after TDC. Advance it 4 degree. My cam is also a 110 LSA and I have it on 106 also. Ron

i have been running the same cam in my setup for a while. actually 3 redoos ago lol. when it was built it was in at 104 and the car ran 10.80s in 90F weather. he had my 110 ls cam in at 104 to nuter it so i would not rev it past 6500. so a valve spring broke and i made him happy on the rebuild for reving it and when i got it back the cam was at 108. the first pass off the trailer was 10.32 with about 2mph more. so if anyone remembers i cracked a block and we decided to put the same olld cam in at 110 just for fun. i my self can not imagin it will loose out on the torque curve being higher with less low end cause the converter flashes 5400 to 5600rpms. i am expecting it to pick up some. but the fun thing is i can go back if i do not like it.

Yes, that's correct, but when the cam MFG tells you it is already advance 4 degrees what he is really telling you is to put it in per the recommended specs. --- and, if you have to advance ( or retard ) it more than 4 degrees you probably got the wrong cam per the rest of your set up.
