So can the pan be pulled as she sets or do i have to raise the motor up some. It looks like there might be enough room. I'd like to pull it and maybe replace the oil pump. Slight bearing noise at first start-up but goes away in 1 or 2 seconds. Oil pressure comes up kind of slow but always climbs to 40 lbs at idle. No bearing or lifter noise after she's running. I'll probably check the bearings too. Has anybody done this?

You can do it and it's a great idea, you don't have to loosen the engine mounts.

Yes, above is correct. The pan drops right out. I even swapped a crank years ago in my driveway without removing eng on a 79 w150. At 40 pounds at hot idle I wouldn't worry about that pump though. The mild pounding for 2 seconds means there is a tad bit of race clearance.

Yeah that makes sense, if i have good pressure it probably is a worn bearing making noise. Oil pump is doing its job. Guess I'll check the rod bearings see what they look like. Thing only has 69k miles but I don't know any history. Thanks guys.

I suggest plastigauging the mains and rods.

I don't know what year your truck is, but I would plan on replacing the timing chain while you are there. Also, make sure the pan bottom has not been pushed up close to the bottom of the pickup tube, and the pickup screen is free of debris. Gene
