Any creative ways to prevent fluid from coming out of the tailshaft when pulling a 4-speed?

I don't have an extra driveshaft yoke or a Mopar trans plug kit. Anything else work that limits fluid loss? Not really looking to drain it if I'm just R&R-ing it.

Thanks

You covered the usual ways. When I need to pull one without a spare yoke or plug I get plenty of junk rags, a full bottle of shampoo and a quart of gear lube.

NAPA sells a universal plastic cone for sealing the tail shaft. I suspect other parts stores have something too.

if you are working close to the ground (floor) let the drive shaft in the trans when removing it . if on a lift you will need a extra pair of hands to hold the shaft till you have it on the floor etc.have done this many times but now i have a yoke off a drive shaft makes it easier for one person.

Go to the dealership and ask the tranny guy if he has any plugs in his toolbox from the remans, probably toss you a couple for free.

That's a great idea. It looks like Harbor Freight has one that's worth a try.

Drain the trans first?

It's a 4 speed, it'd be easier to grunt around too.

Once drained I've used the cap off a spray paint can and some duct tape.

I used a zip lock bag with a cable tie, or Harbour Freight sells a universal plastic tranny plug.

Best idea yet. I've tried the plastic bag... didn't work for me. Still made a mess. I've tried leaving the shaft in. I couldn't get it out from under the car very well and made a mess anyhow.

My suggestion is to jack up the back end of the car higher than the front so that the tailshaft is angled upward. This will keep the trans fluid from running out.

Just my $0.02...

The plastic cap from a spray paint can works surprisingly well (the kind with the inner ring), especially if you have the rear seal with a dust boot.
