I am installing a shaker on my 70 Cuda and would like to know what the differences are between the different shaker bases. I understand that the 383 is the tallest and is too tall for my 440 setup. Is there any difference between the 340 and 440, and can anyone tell me what the correct throat height should be to ensure that I get the correct one.

Appreciate it.

383 has the tallest height measuring 2" from the bottom of the throat to the bottom of the bridge for carb stud.
70 340 is next tallest at 1 3/4" doing same measurement.
71 340 is same measurement as 440 at 1 1/2 ".
Telling a true 440 from the 340 base is lack of feet brackets spotwelded on the underside of the 440 base

Thanks for the measurements.

Mine comes in at 1 5/8 which would not account for why I am too tight under the hood.

I need to look at how I can reduce height somewhere in the engine compartment.

try a few washers under the K frame to frame mounting locations.
