I know that a bunch of the racers have enclosed car trailers, so I am curious of how small of a winch can I get away with to pull my 69 b-body into my 24 ft haulmark? I usually drive it in, but it would be nice to have especially if it is wet out. thx in advance.

Restoring a car to look "only" as good as the factory made it is like getting a boob job for your wife and having the doctor make them two different sizes to seem more natural

I have a 2500# superwinch, it's adequate (my car is a little less than 2900#) but I wish had a 3500#, I just got such a deal on mine that I give it a try, been in the trailer since I bought it in 2001, I would go with a 3500# minimum if I were to do it again.jmo

We had a 3000 lb Bulldog Winch for our 2900 lb A-Body Cuda and it did ok just a little slow... We Upgraded to the 4500 lb winch and it is awesome plus has a nice enclosure. I have an Outlet that I can get them through if you are interested pm me on here. Here is a link.

I've used the Super Winch 2500lbs, 3500 lbs and several of the 4500 lbs one in variuos trailers and on trucks, buy the big one to start with I had a Pace 22 ft. shadow with the 2500 lb. winch in it, it would really struggle to get my 1969 BB Dart up over the dovetail when on flat ground, no way without pushing the car if the trailer was pointed uphill a liitle

I farted around with several of the cheap 3000lb and 3500lb... all of them broke or the cable kept coming off the spool...

I then got a killer deal on a Warn 8000lb winch and it might be a little bit of overkill... but the thing is awesome and completely trouble free..

I have a Warn S4000, been very happy with it. I have also in the past used the small ATV winches out there. They work ok and with a snatch block will work even better, doubling thier capacity. Keep in mind the weight rating on a winch is supposed to be the weight it can pick up vertically, not pull horizontially. While a smaller one will not be as fast as something larger with a snbatch block and a small ATV winch you shoudl have no issue, unless you are in a huge hurry to pull it in the trailer.

I fully agree with this, thats why mine has not been replaced yet, when/if mine ever go's bad thats when I will upgrade to somthing with a little more capacity.

Warn 3700 winch in my trailer and I love it...Biggest difference between this one and a Harbor Salvage one is the speed at which it pulls in the car, and the cable is waay better quality. It doesn't try and coil up like a spring when you free spool it all the way out like the cheapo's do...

Its up front under the quad....

FWIW both of my enclosed trailers that had winches had them mounted up front off to the side. There was a recessed floor tie down in the center of the floor that you hook your snatch block to and the cable down to the car. It worked better than having the winch up in front in the way taking up floor space in front where it's needed.

And remember lighter is better in a trailer because you are paying for every pound you haul in tire, trailer wear and gas mileage.

Superwinch S-4000 here.......... seems to work just fine for my needs.

Also have a Superwinch S-4500 and they have re-rated that model to the S-5000 now.
Bought it before I had the enclosed trailer and wouldn't you know I ended up with a trailer that already had a winch.

It's used, works, complete and is for sale if you have an interest send me a PM
I can send you some pics

I have a cheapo HF 1500 thats on my open trailer..
I have a cheapo HF 2500 in my enclosed trailer...
I use to winch my car in backwards all the time with
the 1500(about 3 years) till the clutch started to
slip some then I got the 2500 but have never used it
in my trailer... I did drag Labrats B-body (GTX)on
his trailer with it.. no problem at all..
Understand that the pounds rating on them is for a
vertical lift so MOST guys are WAY over whats needed
