Fram doesn't make it anymore so it's a sellers market, there is a cheap offshore repop currently out , not show worthy.
what do you need one for don ?
I need one for my Challenger T/A. The one I have may be a little dirty. Thanks John.

Can I ask something? If you eliminate where the ends are folded and interlocked together, and just overlap and glue them together, wouldn't that make the process easer and a little cheaper? Thats how the Fram filters were made, and it has a cleaner look.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and there are alot of different views on that subject. The current method by most mfg. for joining the outer screen ends is overlap and spot welded (not glued) it never has been glued whether perforated or expanded outer. The lock seam method we use for NMS Performance filters is a much more positive (and in most views) a cleaner looking seam. The lockseam was the method used for Chrysler Corp. OEM units before it was changed for cost reduction reasons, so we choose to use the OEM method.

Are you saying the lockseam method made it into production or it was just a prototype.

Yes, it was part of the OEM unit which was made by FRAM for Chrysler for the first year or two.

Do you have any photos of an original OEM lock seam version next to your new one?
Here is a (1972)Version with the lockseam in production, along side an image of our lockseam.

First, NMSEd thanks for being part of the discussions.
If this question has been answered, sorry, I don't recall seeing it. Why weren't the holes punched in the same fashion as the picture shown?
I can't afford this.

Ditto, IMO that is a more important/obvious feature than the locking screen detail.

Because the holes were not flared in the 1st generation of the OEM Filter made for Chrysler, the holes were punched with flat edges. Only after the perforating tooling became dull and a burr started to appear on the punch down side was the change to the tooling made, and the flared hole iteration began.

What do you consider first generation ? O.E.M. from 1972,also have one in black from 1970.
