I had this problem. My front end components were tight, but one of my LCA shaft's was plugged into its K-Frame sleeve and the sleeve weld was broken. Have you actually used a pry bar with the car up on a lift to see just how rigid the suspension is?

You may have to adjust the pre-load in the box. The service manual shows how to properly adjust. My '69 Dart Swingers box was way too loose and the car felt the same way, with bad wandering. After adjusting it, it felt like a new car.

Very possible the bushing at the bottom of the box is shot, it is on my GTX and I'm going to fix it by converting the car back to power steering.

Have someone crank the wheel back and forth while the car is sitting on the ground and watch the lower shaft and see if it moves around.

Mines so bad the car will make a "thunk" noise while braking hard and the car will dart around which is no fun.

I think only the A body /6 cars had a bushing , everything else has a bearing , but good thing to check.

..watch your gear box while turning the column back and forth from under the hood.
if this just started your steering box bolts may be loose

Box on my car was from a slant 6 car, I installed it to save the pounds and HP.

Now I'm getting old and putting the PS back in.

his box would not have a bushing then.

Ron also look at the coupler to column shaft connection.

A lot happens in 40+ years, who is to say it has the original correct box in it?

I worked in a yard doing inventory for a friend, it was scary what the Hollander book said would "interchange"

many thanks for the replies... the car was at my buddies shop getting the carbs resealed, as today's gas is a killer on parts..

he had the car for the better part of a month, and told me he did a bit of 'street-racing' with it and had dropped the m+h slicks (d.o.t. stamped)down to 8lbs. I put 25lbs in em, and the car is def. better... tho still a bit sloppy... i'm droppin the car off again on Monday so he may look closer at the front end...
