thats what it calls for per the manual.

BUT when you drop the dist in with rotor pointing at #1 term on cap,it will be 180* out of time.

I have done it that way for 30 yrs and always have been 180* out and have to reset dist on my engine every time.

now here in 2013 I swap in a hughes cam and read the instructions to turn it 1 full turn on the crank to get both dots 12 oclock high and set the dist to #1 term on cap with damper 10* BTDC.

it turned 1/2 turn of crank and fired right up and idled.

I just put another one in this week and just set the dots at 12 oclock high and set damper/dist 10*/#1 term on cap.
set curb idle to 2300 rpm fired it off and 1/2 turn on crank it fires and comes up to 2300 rpm for the 20 min break in on cam.

I've had after market timing sets that have to be degreed to have the cam installed correctly, on those you can not get the dots lined up perfectly. The cam dot will not align perfectly with the crank dot, the dot will be off a tiny bit either way, not perfect One tooth on the cam gear is right at 12 degrees retarded or advanced Degree it
