My hydraulic 284XE comp cam and comp lifters in my BB with 1.6 aluminum rockers are noisy. I have adjusted them tighter, looser and it doesn't make much difference. I am considering changing lifers. What if any break in will be needed for new lifers on a used cam?

Yup, gotta break em in just like before. I used crane anti pump ups in my 408 as recommended by Ryan J and it worked out good.

What makes you think it's the lifters and what do you mean by noisey?

It just sounds like it has solid lifters in it. I have tried 1/2-3/4-1 full turn and it still clicks like its out of adjustment. I understand the aluminum roller rockers may make it noisy.

Check to make sure the rockers clear the spring retainers ok.

XE cams are aggressive on the ramp and do sound noisey.

End of story. Nothing you can do about it.

Nothing you can do that series of cams clatter--I think closing ramps are the culprit.

I don't like it. Would switching to Iron rockers help quite it down any? I know I would lose a little lift...Im using 1.6 rockers now.

How are you adjsuting them, hot or cold? Are the heads aluminum ot iron? If aluminum make sure and set the preload hot I run a Comp Cams XE295HL cam and lifters in one of my 440 with Eddy RPM heads and Harland Sharp 1.5 rockers, nothing noisy in the valve train on it

452 Iron heads. I adjust them cold 7/16-20 thread on the adjuster = .050 per turn. I loosen them and slowly tighten them until I feel drag on the push rod then turn them to what I am setting them at. Should I go more than one turn?

I would try setting them warm, as a last resort I like and use the method of setting the valves by turning the motor over on the starter with one valve cover off until the exhaust valves starts to open and then set the preload on the intake rocker arm, I then bump the starter over until the intake valve opens all the way and starts to close a tiny little bit and then set the exhaust preload, same thing on the valve lash I usally do one side and then button that side up and run the motor some more to warm it back up and then do the other side I don't like or use the Mopar, Chevy charts

7/16-20 adjusters ??? Those would be HUGE, all adjusters I have ever seen were 1/4-28

On the 7/16 x 20 adjuster I would start with 1/2 turn warm or hot Let us know what you get
