I just got a TF-2 and was upgrading a 1969 VB. The last time I did this was about 5 years ago. I am pretty confused and disappointed by the TF-2 instructions. I kept the old instructions and there are many things different. The new instructions also don't bother to mention many details... what happened to all this? Do they expect people to know this? I did know it but many people don't know it or don't have the old instructions...

1. new instructions have absolutly no infos on front piston. Old one said to remove outer spring with lever ratios <4.2 on the old style servos (<1971). I guess the outter spring helped with the "slow" >4.2 levers and was to fast with the <4.2 levers when also installing the orifice for the front clutch risking flare up. This is ignored now.

2. they write 2.5 turns on the front band, no matter what lever you have. That was on the old one different depending on your lever ratio. I ask myself if it's wise to ignore this...

3. Can't find it right now in the old TF-2 instructions but I remember it was written to make a small hole in the VB where the pressure regulator valve is. Almost on the front web. Now in the new instructions they mention that IF there is a hole it should be plugged? What's the deal with that?

4. They also don't mention any type how to set the throttle valve. With the new spring and shortened TV valve you can push the complete valve deeper into the VB than original. So I guess the 0.625" as I do with the original valve shouldn't be done. So I did the way the old instructions said with the 3/16" drill between throttle stop and lever?
But on new instructions no word about it?!

5. I have a spring in the kit that got a weird yellow-white color? I replaced the line bypass ball&spring with the white one as they write. (left on the picture. Ignore the TV comment, it's on the bypass ball!) But the one I got left is this yellow-white (right one on picture). Is that supposed to be the green one for the other bypass valve? (my VB doesn't have this) Pretty confusing since this it's almost white...

All in all, seems to me that the TF-2 kit became less clear and good, only the packing became better and the price higher... what are your experiences?

the last one I got had a different PR spring line up that's why they no longer drill the hole in the VB casting.

yeah right, the PR valve has now 2 springs with 2 washers... so this point is clear now although I was wondering why 2 springs and not 1 but stronger.

This instructions are totally different to the ones I got. Maybe because it's also for a 518. Here is page 1 of the new TF2 instructions. I will scan the rest when I get more time. But on point 3 you see this green spring. I did rebuild many VB but never saw this bypass valve. I guess this white-yellow spring is supposed to be the green one?
