So I'm trying to put a clutch fan on my small block 69 valiant (to replace the crappy plastic flex fan) and I went to the parts store to get a new clutch. I tried telling them to look up a 69 valiant 318 (which it is) and was told only a $80+ clutch is available that they would have to special order.

Well I figured a 71 would probably have a similar clutch so I told them to try that instead and they pulled up a hayden clutch for $35... tried it and it's too long.... Can anyone clarify what years used what length clutch fans?

I believe only factory A/C Valiants would have used a clutch fan, so there is probably a limited availability. Having said that, I see know reason why a later Duster would not be the same as they didn't use 26" radiators until later which would be thinner using a longer clutch.

Most clutch fans are too tall to fit the Mopars..
Especially if one has increased the radiator size, (2) alternatives:
1. Use the Hayden 2705, also Napa can cross this overhttp://www.haydenauto.com/upload/haydenauto/documents/cat_hayden/2007-hayden-fan-clutch.pdf
2. Look for an FC28 online, this is a TRW Mopar replacement, more $ but more like OE.

Just my $0.02...

26" radiators did not come out until 1973, so somebody has changed it out. Also in 1969 small blocks had the cast iron water pump which was much shorter and 1970 and later had the aluminum water pump which was much longer and put the fan closer to the radiator. Sounds like you have a mishmash of parts so it might not be easy to find what you need. Much easier to use a regular fan.
