440 with Eddy heads with crane gold roller rockers. What it's the correct procedure for getting the correct valve adjustment?

It will be different depending on the type of camshaft.
Solid lifter? You rotate the adjuster until the pushrod won't spin, then back it off to achieve the desired lash. Aluminum heads are often less than iron heads though. The cam manufacturer is the best source for accurate lash numbers.
Hydraulic cam? Some lifters require a preload, others do not. Either way, you tighten tha adjuster until the pushrod will not spin. In most cases, you tighten the adjuster from 1/4 to 1/2 a turn PAST zero lash.
Good luck.

I move the pushrod up & down with my thumb/forefinger & get to zero end play: then with a feeler gauge set the gap if it's a solid lifter cam & you'd want to see what the particular cam mfr wants (with iron (I'm assuming) block/alum heads) & the cam mfr may or may not have a cold lash spec that'd be different from the hot lash spec. On a hyd cam (from zero play) you'd do the opposite & lengthen the pushrod or adj rockers till you have .020-.030" preload (again ask the cam mfr) by turning the rocker arm screws ~1/2-3/4 of a turn clockwise (depends on the # of threads per inch on Crane gold rocker arm adj screws. there's a chart to adj the valves either four of em at a time with the 4 position chart or 2 of em at a time with the 8 position chart but I prefer before I install the intake is to get each cyl on TDC & adj its' pair of rocker arms then with them all adjusted take off the rocker shafts/arms pushrods/lifters & goop the cam lobes/lifter bottoms then replace the removed items & the adjustments will not change just from a carefull R&R & this avoids hand turning wiping breakin lube off of the lobes. A bit picky but all I hear about is cam failures so I try to be proactive & it actually takes less time than the other methods as you get each piston easily/quickly to TDC (watching the dist rotor is an easy way for all other than #1 & #6) & adj that pair of rockers.

Warm the motor up so the oil is hot and then adjust one side at a time by rotating the motor over so the exhaust valve just starts to open, then set the intake rocker arm by backing off the adjutster so you get free play between the adjuster end and the pushrod cup, slowly tighten the adjuster up while feeling the pushrod with your hand while spinnng the pushrod, once it start to get a tiny bit of tension on it tighten the adjuster up between 1/3 and 1/2 a turn of the adjuster and hold the adjuster still while tightening the lock nut Once the intake is set then rotate the motor over clockwise until the intake valve opens all the way and start to cloes, then set the exhaust adjustment the same way Do one cylinder at a time and once you have one side set button that side up and run the motor again to warm the motor back up before doing the other side, it helps to have a remote starter button or someone in the car to bump the starter over, leave the spark plugs in the motor if your going to use the starter Good luck, take your time and get them set correctly This method is a litle harder than using the Chevy and Mopar valve lash chart methods but it is a lot more accuurate on the bigger cams
